Audi sports racer for Sebring debut

Audi debuts its new diesel sports racing car in next month’s Sebring 12 Hours in Florida, USA

The German outfit has withdrawn from the full American Le Mans series but will do the major enduro as a dress rehearsal for June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, in France.

Audi Sport Team Joest is taking two new Audi R15 TDI sport racers to the March 21 race at Sebring.

Audi Motorsport boss, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, says the R15 TDI has performed “as we expected” during testing.

"Now it must also prove itself in race conditions. Sebring is a particularly hard race and is therefore perfectly suited to reveal even the smallest of weaknesses."

The 2008 Le Mans winners Dindo Capello (Italy), Tom Kristensen (Denmark) and Allan McNish (Scotland) will drive one car with Germans, Lucas Luhr, Mike Rockenfeller and Marco Werner, in the other.

Audi has won the Sebring 12 Hours eight times, most recently in 2007. The 2007 winning car is pictured.
