Volkswagen is celebrating 2006 sales of 1910 passenger vehicles – said to be the most ever recorded by a European brand in New Zealand. General manager Dean Sheed said the 25 per cent increase over 2005 was “simply outstanding”. Another 433 commercial vehicles were registered, bringing the total to 2343.
Most popular was the Golf GTi, which accounted for 282 sales. Diesels also did well – sales of 636 made Volkswagen the most popular diesel choice among Euro brands, the company said.
Worldwide, Vokswagen last year delivered nearly 3.4 million vehicles.
