Tata plans to run on air


March 31, 2007, 4pm. Indian company Tata is cooperating with France's MDI Group to develop a compressed-air engine.

Tata’s expected to use the core technology for a double-fuel engine that runs on compressed air at lower speeds and can switch to conventional fuels for speeds above 50km/h.

Air is stored at up to 4000psi in a tank that can be recharged at an air station in about three minutes.
