Subaru changes face and direction
March 12, 2007, 7am. Subaru has used the New York Motor Show to introduce two revised models important to the New Zealand market.
The Tribeca (photo) appears with styling changes – most importantly a new grille – and bigger engine. The Impreza gets a thorough makeover.
The US-spec Tribeca has Subaru’s largest-ever engine, a 3.6-litre boxer six producing 190kW of power and 334Nm of torque.
The Impreza heralds a change of emphasis for Subaru’s iconic small car. The five-door hatch moves upmarket with a “more stylish” design to better appeal to woman buyers.
However, the WRX and the STI continue in the range. It’ll be launched here as a hatch in September. The revised Tribeca won’t arrive until early next year.
