Mitsubishi pulls out of retailing

April 27, 2007, 2.30pm. Sale of the Lower Hutt and Wellington Kirk Motors to the Armstrong Motor Group marks Mitsubishi’s end of more than 30 years directly operating retail dealerships.

The sale takes effect on June 1, making Mitsubishi’s 37-strong car dealer network totally independently owned.

Christchurch’s Rick Armstrong started business in 1993 and over recent years has acquired automotive franchises throughout the South Island and in Wellington.

The Wellington and Lower Hutt businesses will trade as Armstrong Mitsubishi. Staff have been offered new contracts to retain their jobs.
