Pink is the new green

May 30, 2007, 9am. A 100-plus fleet of London chauffeur-driven cars is going hybrid as Pink Express adds Toyota Prius hybrids to help it meet environmental targets.

The company is replacing conventional passenger cars with hybrids as they come up for renewal.

Its drivers are trained in fuel-efficient and low environmental-impact driving techniques.

They also have to complete weekly maintenance declarations aimed at minimising fuel consumption and emissions.

No stopping ABS pioneer

May 30, 2007, 9am. Bosch is about to produce its 150 millionth anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The company began production of ABS in 1978, followed in 1986 by the traction control system (TCS) and, in 1995, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

Bosch now produces more than 65,000 ABS units every working day at six locations worldwide.

The original ABS unit weighed over 6kg; today’s weigh only 1.4kg and work considerably faster.
