Freelander’s a key to 07 sales goal

June 15, 2007, Midday. The new Freelander 2 (pictured) is expected to be a key to Land Rover’s planned 10 percent sales increase this year.

As of May, the brand was a couple of percentage points behind 2006 but local boss Wally Dumper says they’re on target to do more than 500 vehicles for the full year.

With diesel and petrol on the Freelander menu, the company’s expecting a 75-25 percentage split in favour of the diesel, although early supply is likely to be 50-50, “because that’s all we could get”.

Online video puts brake on service cost

June 15, 2007, Midday. Saying that some motorists are paying 300 percent more than they need to have their brake discs and pads replaced, a large British parts supplier has produced a six minute online video to show how simple it is to do the job yourself.
Noted a spokesman: “It’s hardly rocket science to change your brakes”.

MPV demand grows as buyers shun 4WDs

June 15, 2007, Midday. Analysts have spotted what they believe is a big move to MPVs in Western Europe.

While demand for 4WDs is dropping because increased taxation and bad publicity, buyers still want larger vehicles and are turning to people movers.

Demand is expected to grow during the northern summer.
