Driverless by 2030


March 2, 2007. Scientists developing robot-driven cars predict they could be in general service by 2030.

The first “intelligent” cars capable of understanding and reacting to the what’s around them will be tested in November in a competition run by the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Part of the test will be to see how they work in a simulated city. Lasers fitted to the bumpers along with radar and global positioning systems feed data to its computer.
