Team Kiwi Racing, buoyed by a strong performance in Melbourne today, are looking forward with confidence to October's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
New Zealand's only team in the V8 Supercar Championship, finished 14th in the Betta Electrical 500 at Sandown near Melbourne today in the traditional endurance tester ahead of Bathurst.
It marked a strong showing from Team Kiwi and drivers Paul Radisich and Fabian Coulthard who were back in 28th on the grid after a penalty in qualifying.
"That made things tough today getting through the traffic," team owner David John said. "But they drove really well, the car was generally strong and the pitwork was excellent."
The car had brake problems in the latter parts of the race but managed to fight on strongly to be the leading New Zealand drivers today.
"Given the penalty in qualifying and the brake issues, then we believe that a top-10 finish at Bathurst is within our reach."
There was more good news for Team Kiwi with the car they will use in next year's championship, the Ford driven by Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom, took out the Sandown race. They finished clear of the Holden of Rick and Todd Kelly with Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup third in the Ford.
