Double National Rally Champion Richard Mason, and co-driver Sara Randall, will drive their Subaru Imprea QWRX STi as one of the safety cars, running just a few minutes ahead of the competitors, in the Genuine Vehicle Imports Rally of Waitomo on June 23.
“It’s a bit of a coup to get Richard and Sara, and even though they’re not competing, spectators will still be able to see NZ’s #1 pairing in action, and in their current car,” says Rally chairman Steve Burley.
And if they needed any practice for the all tarmac event, they are competing in a similar event as part of the China Rally Championship this weekend.
Both Mason and Randall will be available with the BNT Subaru at a signing session at the finish of the event in Te Kuiti between five and 5.30pm on August 23.
The Waitomo Rally starts from Te Kuiti at 6.15am on Saturday and is Round 3 of the newly formed Fram North Island Rally Series.
Competitors will then be tested over 180km in 11 high-speed special stages before finishing back in the town around 4.30pm.
