Australian muscle cars, American sports cars and high-end European classics failed to sell at Shannons summer auction in Melbourne on Monday night.

Among the cars passed in were a Chrysler Charge E49 Bathurst special, Holden Torana GTR and XU-1, Holden Torana L34, Holden HQ SS and GTS, and a Holden Torana A9X that had been tipped to sell for more than $Au130,000 were all passed in.

So too were three classic Chevrolet Corvettes and two classic Ford Mustangs, and among European classics, a Mercedes-Benz 190SL roadster, a Ferrari 330 GT, and a very rare French Facel Vega coupe.

However, a metallic blue Hummer H1 originally owned by tennis star Mark Philippoussis sold unreserved for $Au69,000 after a bidding duel among a dozen floor and telephone bidders.

A three-owner 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250SE Coupe sold for $Au23,000; a 1959 MGA 1600 Mark I Roadster in good condition went for a strong $Au21,500; a 1985 Porsche 928S Coupe and a 1966 Jaguar MkII 3.4 manual saloon each made $14,000. A black 1961 Holden EK Special Sedan made $11,500 and a 1985 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe in need of some body work sold unreserved for $7500.
